MFM Daily Devotional Message Thursday 7th May 2026.

Today, we shall round off the topic “How to Pray in Times of Crisis.” Crisis time is not a palatable period. It is a time when man gets to his wits end and is desperate for solution, so that he can get out of the problem. The Fire Scripture for today talks about the prayer Jonah prayed when he entered into the belly of the fish.

God sent him on assignment to Nineveh, but he decided to go to Tarshish. He wanted to run away from the assignment that God gave him,
because the people of Nineveh where Israel’s enemies. He did not want God to have mercy upon them. He said he knew that God was a merciful God and if the people repented, God would forgive them and they would not pay for their sins against Israel.

That was why he ran towards Tarshish. But there is no one that can escape from God. In Psalm 139:7 David asked “Wither shall I go from thy spirit?” There was nowhere Jonah could have escaped to that God would not have got him? Dearly beloved, Jonah prayed very desperate prayers from the belly of the fish after the sailors threw him inside the sea.

Right from the first verse of chapter 2 of the book of Jonah, his desperate prayer started. Jonah cried out by reason of his affliction unto the Lord, Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days. He did three days prayer and fasting, begging God to reconsider and forgive him?. Someone who is in crisis will go on 21 days prayer and fasting so that he can get out of the crisis.

If he has to go on multiple days of vigil, he will do it, even if he has not done vigil all his life. A man had problems for about 15 years and still he said he has never fasted all his life, anytime he was to fast, by 11a.m he has gone to break his fast. But  when the problem lingered, he had to reconsider his stand and change his attitude.
