MFM Daily Devotional Message Tuesday 17th November 2026.
After God revealed Saul as His chosen king, He touched a band of men and they followed him. However, there were also men of Belial who didn’t believe in him. His first test as a king came shortly after. Nahash the Ammonite came against Jabesh-gilead. The men of Jabesh were willing make an agreement with him but his conditions were impossible. So, they asked Saul for help. The Spirit of God came upon Saul as soon as he heard the news. He gave an instruction that the men of Israel were compelled to obey because the fear of God came upon them. When God chooses you for an assignment, He goes with you.
God will not leave you in the middle of the road to figure it out all by yourself. The Yorubas (a tribe in South West, Nigeria) call Him, “Oranmonisefayati”, meaning “the One who sends you on an errand and backs you up.” The same God who chose Saul as king also gave him authority over the men of Israel so that they obeyed him.Saul summoned three hundred and thirty thousand men from both Israel and Judah.
They fought and conquered the Ammonites. Thus, Saul earned the full respect and confidence of the children of Israel. Some were even willing to kill the men who had doubted him initially but he restrained them. Saul acknowledged the victory as the salvation of the Lord. God used this victory to begin to establish Saul’s dominion over Israel. If he had failed to help the men of Jabesn, or if he had been defeated in this first battle, it would have been difficult to convince the men of Israel that he was the right choice for a king. Another lesson to learn here is that battles serve as a training ground for God’s people. It is through battles that your hands and our faith are strengthened for the work God has committed into your hands. Beloved, God can be trusted. When He commits an assignment into your hand, as long as you walk with Him, He will never abandon you to yourself.
