- “For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is [only] the third hour of the day.
- “But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
- ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.
- And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.
- I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
- The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.
ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 10TH JUNE 2025.
Empowerment is the authority or power given to someone to do something. Prior to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Peter was so afraid to identify with Jesus during his trying period (Luke 22:56-57).
However, having been empowered by the Holy Spirit, it is amazing to see the same person who denied ever knowing Jesus thrice, standing up courageously and explaining to a great number of people the baptism of the Holy Spirit, as observed by many.
This was the fulfilment of the Old Testament prophetic promise spoken by Joel (Joel 2:28-29; Acts 2:14,16). The Holy Spirit empowers us to live above fear (2 Tim.1:7).
He empowers believers to do exploits for God (Acts 1:8). To be an effective witness for Christ, we need to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Salvation and empowerment by the Holy Spirit are available for all who call upon the name of the Lord (Acts 2:21).
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, empower me with your Holy Spirit and grant me boldness to teach and preach your word to others, Amen!
