Did you know that a Christian isn’t sustained by blood?” Nathan asked his classmates.
“That doesn’t make sense. Everyone needs blood to live,” Sophia shot back.
“That’s what I thought too, but I discovered in the Bible that when the Lord Jesus rose from the dead, His body
wasn’t sustained by blood anymore but by the Spirit. And since we have the same resurrection life with Him, it’s the same with us too,” Nathan maintained.
In Ephesians 5:30, the Apostle Paul shares a most profound truth: “For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones.” This is far beyond being part of a local church; it refers to our inextricable oneness with Christ.
We’re one with Him! But notice something interesting: Paul didn’t say “of His blood.” Why? Because the Lord Jesus’ body doesn’t have blood anymore. Remember, when He was crucified, He gave His blood as a sacrifice for us. When the Roman soldier pierced His side, blood and water flowed out; His blood was entirely drained (John 19:34). By the time He was buried, His body had no blood left.
Then, on the third day, something incredible happened—the Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead! His resurrected body wasn’t sustained by blood anymore but by the power of the Holy Spirit. And here’s the exciting part: “As He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17) Glory be to God! Before you were born again, your body lived by blood. But now that the Holy Spirit lives in you, even though there’s blood in your body, your sustenance is by the Spirit.
No wonder the Lord Jesus asserts in John 6:63, “It is the Spirit who gives life.”
