RCCG YAYA Sunday School Teacher Manual Lesson No: 48
OPENING PRAYER: Father, help me to increase in knowledge concerning end-time events in Jesus’ name.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The Assistant Teacher should review the previous week’s lesson with particular attention to the lesson outline.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Revelation 16:12-16 (KJV)
12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
INTRODUCTION: In the Bible, the word “Armageddon” comes from the Hebrew word “Har-Magedone,” which means “Mount Megiddo.” It refers to the predicted location of the catastrophic future battle between God and the forces of evil, as recorded in the book of Revelation. History tells us that armies have fought countless battles in that region: Egyptians, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, and Crusaders fought in Megiddo, as well as the armies of Napoleon. Megiddo was the site of battles during World War 1 in 1918 and the Arab-Israeli War of 1948.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: LOCATION AND SYMBOLISM
QUESTION 1: Is the name ‘Armageddon’ captured in any other place in the Bible?
ANSWER: Yes. The plain of Megiddo or Armageddon was famous for two great victories and a tragedy in Israel’s history:
i. Barak’s victory over the Canaanites (Judges 4:15; 5:19-20).
ii. Gideon’s victory over the Midianites (in the Valley of Jezreel, also known as the Plain of Esdraelon, or Megiddo) – Judges 6:33; 7:1-25.
iii. Armageddon was also the site of a great tragedy: it was the place where King Josiah was badly wounded and this led to his death when he meddled in a war against God’s warning (2 Chronicles 35:20-24).
QUESTION 2: Is there an exact or specific location known where the battle of Armageddon will take place?
ANSWER: No, the use of the name in Revelation may be symbolic rather than precise.
QUESTION 3: What does the name Armageddon symbolize?
ANSWER: The name Armageddon symbolizes:
i. That Megiddo was a place where opponents of God met their defeat.
ii. A place associated with the mourning of King Josiah’s end (2 Kings 23:29-30; Zechariah 12:11).
iii. To say that the forces opposing God gather at Armageddon means that they gather for their defeat.
iv. The battle of Armageddon also teaches us that victory comes through the sword of Christ’s mouth (Revelation 19:13-15).

LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE BATTLE
QUESTION 1: What is the significance of the Battle of Armageddon?
ANSWER: The Battle of Armageddon is significant in the following ways:
i. It will take place close to the end of the Great Tribulation period (Revelation 16:10-11, 16).
ii. The kings of the earth under demonic leadership will gather their armies to wage war with the forces of God (Revelation 16:13-14).
iii. The Antichrist (the Beast) will gather together with the kings and their armies (Revelation 19:19).
iv. Jesus Christ will return to earth with the armies of heaven (Matthew 25:31; Revelation 19:14).
v. He will defeat the forces of evil (Revelation 19:15-16).
vi. He will cast the Antichrist and the false prophet into the lake of fire (Revelation 19:20). With the sword in His mouth, the rest of the army will be slain (Revelation 19:21).
vii. He will bind Satan and put him in the bottomless pit, and He will set up His kingdom on earth for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-6).
viii. Believers should note that no force of evil can battle with the Lord; God always wins.
