Prayer Points for September 11, 2025
Focus: Loving Others Selflessly
Scripture: John 13:34 – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
Reflection:
Jesus’ command to love one another as He loves us sets a high standard for how we should treat others. His love is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional, demonstrated through His life and death on the cross. As we move through September, reflect on how you can embody this love in your relationships. Are there people in your life—family, friends, coworkers, or even strangers—whom you find difficult to love? Selfless love requires putting others’ needs before your own, forgiving when it’s hard, and showing kindness without expecting anything in return.
Consider the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37), where a man showed love to a stranger by tending to his needs at great personal cost. This story challenges us to expand our definition of “neighbor” and to love beyond our comfort zones. Reflect on moments when you’ve struggled to love selflessly. Perhaps it’s holding a grudge, being impatient, or prioritizing your own convenience. Jesus’ love calls us to rise above these tendencies, showing grace even when it’s undeserved. This kind of love reflects God’s heart and draws others to Him.
Loving selflessly starts with understanding how deeply God loves you. 1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.” When you grasp the depth of God’s love—forgiving your sins, pursuing you in your brokenness, and offering eternal life—it transforms how you love others. Spend time meditating on His love, asking Him to fill you with His Spirit so you can love as He does. Reflect on practical ways to show love this month, such as serving someone in need, listening to a friend, or reconciling with someone you’ve wronged.
Selfless love also requires humility. Philippians 2:3–4 encourages us to value others above ourselves, looking to their interests. This might mean giving up your time to help a coworker, forgiving a family member, or showing kindness to someone who has hurt you. Love is not just a feeling but a choice to act in ways that honor God and bless others. As you pray today, ask God to help you love selflessly, even when it’s costly, and to make you a vessel of His love in a hurting world.
Your love can have a ripple effect. When you love selflessly, you reflect Christ to those around you, inspiring them to seek Him. Think about how your actions can point others to Jesus—through a kind word, a generous deed, or a forgiving heart. Let September be a month where you intentionally love others as Christ loves you, transforming your relationships and glorifying God.
