The Topic of Teenagers Open Heavens for Sunday 11th August 2024 Is “Effective Prayer (1)”

Read: Acts 16:25-34

[25]And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
[26]And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bands were loosed.
[27]And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
[28]But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
[29]Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
[30]And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
[31]And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
[32]And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
[33]And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
[34]And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

Memorise: James 5:16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Prayer is a vital part of your relationship with God. It has the power to change your life and the world around you. However, as beautiful as prayer is, if it is not effective, it is a waste of time. The following are a few things that can make your prayers effective:

1. Righteousness: Anyone who is not living a righteous life is merely making noise before God. This is because God does not hear the prayer of a sinner; it is an abomination to Him.
2. Faith: Hebrews 11 lists the heroes of faith in the Bible. I particularly like Elijah. The Bible says that he was a man of like passions who sealed heaven and commanded rain to cease through prayers (James 5:17). Jesus also said that with faith as little as a mustard seed, you can move a mountain. Thus, God honours the faith of His children.
3. The name of Jesus: This is the only name through which you can have access to the Father. If you pray in the name of Adeboye, you are merely wasting your time. Adeboye did not die for you, neither was he nailed to the cross –Jesus was. You also cannot pray in the name of angels, for they are your messengers, and you will judge them at the end of the world (1 Corinthians 6:3).

ACTION POINT
Apply the three you’ve learnt about prayer and pray for the next 30 minutes.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Nehemiah 1:1-3:14; 1 Corinthians 7:1-24

HYMN 15, PASS ME NOT O GENTLE SAVIOUR
1. Pass me not, O gentle savior
Hear my humble cry
While on others Thou art calling
Do not pass me by.

Saviour, Saviour
Hear my humble cry
While on others Thou art calling
Do not pass me by.

2. Let me at thy throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contribution
Help my unbelief.

3.Trusting only in the Thy merit
would i seek thy face
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
save me by thy grace.

4.Thou, the spring of all my comfort
More than life to me
Whom have I on earth beside Thee
Whom in Heav’n but Thee?
