“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.”
Today’s Bible reading highlights the journey of the prodigal son who, driven by impatience, collected his inheritance while his father was still alive and travelled far away. Instead of using the money wisely, he squandered it on wasteful living. Eventually, he became so poor that he desired to eat the food he was feeding pigs.
This connects strongly with the memory verse, which warns that the desire to get rich quickly often ends in poverty.
If you truly want to enjoy financial success when you grow older, you must begin to develop financial intelligence now. Start learning how to save, plan, and manage money—even if it’s just the little your parents give you. Good financial habits grow over time.
One important skill I learnt from my mother as a child was negotiation. Whenever I accompanied her to the market, I observed how she bargained carefully with sellers. Her aim was always to get quality items at a good price so she could save money for other needs. Those lessons helped me greatly later in life.
Dear child, your financial future starts today. Read books about making wise money decisions, learn from godly adults around you, and avoid the temptation of wanting “fast money.” Good financial habits now will bless your future.
