MFM Daily Devotional Message Monday 14th September 2026.

Discord means strife; disagreement between people. A person who sows discord is one who causes disagreement between friends. Most times, this is done through the agency of gossip and tale bearing. The Bible tells us that the Lord hales the act of sowing discord among brethren. There is an interesting story in the Bible of Ziba and Mephibosheth. Ziba, a servant of Saul, was the one who had informed David that Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son, was still alive. The king, David, decided to show kindness to Mephibosheth because of his friend, Jonathan. However, in 2 Samuel 16:1-4, Ziba
decided to lie against Mephibosheth when David was running from Absalom.

He lied that Mephibosheth wanted to take over David’s kingdom. This made David give him Mephibosheth’s inheritance. However, the truth is unravelled in 2 Samuel 19:24-30. It turns out that Mephibosheth had wanted to follow David but could not because Ziba had deceived him. As a matter of fact, Mephibosheth had behaved like someone in mourning while David was away. He had neither taken care of his feet nor trimmed his moustache nor washed his clothes. So anxious was he about the king’s safety. David then asked both of them to divide the inheritance but even then, Mephibosheth wasn’t interested.

Oftentimes, people behave like Ziba because they want to curry favours from highly placed individuals. Or, they want to tarnish the image of others and make them fall out of favour. These are people who sow discord. It is also possible that you have met people like Ziba who maliciously report other people to you in order to cause discord. These days, there are people who sow discord in the church of God through social media. They spread unsavoury stories about the church and the people of God. God hates this and He will judge the guilty if they don’t repent. Beloved, watch out. Do not be one who sponsors division among brethren. Also, ask the Holy Spirit for a discerning heart so that you do not fall into the trap of people who sow discord. May the Lord help us, in Jesus’ name.
