God’s love compelled Him to create borders for us. Borders are blessings. Inside the borders, we find peace, provision, and protection. Life proves more challenging for those outside of the borders.

At one time, we were all outside of those borders. While we were dead in our trespasses (Ephesians 2:5), God saw us there on the wrong side of the border. Overwhelmed with love, He sent His only Son, Jesus, to become the sacrifice that would bring us back into right relationship with the Father.

He saw us in our bondage and in slavery to sin. He saw us bound in chains of addiction and abuse. He considered the burdens that we were carrying and the yokes that we were wearing. He looked into our futures that were void of hope without Him. He saw how the world would break our hearts. He saw how Satan would attack us, how he would steal our hope, rob our joy, and kill our potential.

When He saw the quality of our lives on the wrong side of the border, the gospel of John captures His response: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Hear that all-encompassing word: “whoever.” This border offers open access to all. It is available to anyone who chooses it. No matter how far you might have wandered, how broken you are, how desperate your needs. He saw you on the wrong side of the border, and He loved you.

When you were a stranger to the covenants of promise, when you were without hope and without God, He sent the remedy. He said, “I’ll take you.” He accepts the addict so locked in bondage that he cannot live without a fix. “I’ll take you.” He opens His arms to the abused so broken by the offender that they have lost all hope for tomorrow. “I’ll take you.” He offers love and acceptance to the lonely and isolated. “I’ll take you.” He welcomes the sin-stained and the shamed. “I’ll take you.”

With arms wide open, with eyes of love, He accepts all, and He takes us to a place called Calvary, to the border of the Cross where He cleanses us. Though our sins are like crimson stains, He washes us whiter than snow (Isaiah 1:18). To all those who come, He says, “I’ll take you.”

Heavenly Father, oh the joy of being accepted in the Beloved. Oh, the glory of Your grace! Thank You for welcoming me, for washing away my sins, and making me Yours. In the name of Jesus… Amen.
