DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

At different times in the contemporary history of an African country, an influential elder statesman was known for writing open letters in national newspapers to address pressing societal issues.

Once published, these letters generated intense reactions — editorials, commentaries, and national debates.

However, critics often diverted attention from the substance of his message by focusing on his questionable past, thereby dismissing his contributions because of the messenger rather than thoughtfully engaging with the message.

A similar danger confronts readers of Job chapter 33. Elihu had earlier arrogantly claimed to be God’s spokesman (Job 33:6), and this can tempt readers to dismiss his counsel outright.

However, while Elihu’s attitude may have been flawed, the core of his message remains biblically accurate and spiritually sound. He correctly affirmed that God’s actions are unquestionable, the Creator cannot be resisted by His creation, and it is wrong for anyone to accuse God of injustice.

Job erred by interpreting his suffering as divine hostility and by declaring himself completely innocent: “I am clean without transgression… neither is there iniquity in me.”

Scripture consistently reveals that God, as the Owner of the earth and all its fullness, reserves the sovereign right to speak through anyone He chooses — regardless of human assessment of their credentials.

He spoke through Balaam’s donkey, corrected Jonah through a great fish, and used Nebuchadnezzar, a heathen king, as His instrument of judgment, even calling him “my servant.”

Therefore, believers must guard against rejecting weighty truths simply because of personal bias against the source. Messages must be carefully examined in the light of God’s Word, not dismissed because of the perceived shortcomings of the messenger.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Despise not the message that has consequences.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
