ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 9TH MAY 2026.
Exodus 17:1-7 recounts a significant moment for the Israelites during their journey through the wilderness. Faced with the threat of dying from lack of drinking water, they turned to Moses, expressed their anger and questioned God’s presence. This passage offers valuable lessons about trust, obedience, and the provision of God. The Israelites, despite experiencing God’s miraculous deliverance from Egypt, quickly succumbed to fear and doubt.
Their complaints, though understandable, reveal a lack of trust in God’s provision. This highlights the human tendency to focus on immediate needs and lose sight of God’s faithfulness. However, despite their grumbling, God provided. He instructed Moses to strike a rock, and miraculously, water flowed forth, and quenched the thirst of the people. This act serves as a powerful reminder of God’s provision and His unwavering commitment to His people.
How often do we, like the Israelites, allow fear and doubt to cloud our faith? Do we fully trust in God’s provision, even when faced with challenging circumstances? This passage challenges us to cultivate a deeper trust in God, to remember His past faithfulness, and to confidently rely on His provision for our present and future needs. Are there areas where you struggle to trust God’s provision and care? This passage encourages us to turn to God in prayer, trusting that He will provide for our needs. Just as God provided water from the rock, He can bring solutions and blessings in ways we might not expect.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to trust in your provision, even when I face uncertainty and fear. Amen.
