ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 4TH APRIL 2026.
Our text today describes the burial of Jesus Christ, highlighting the piety and courage of Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the Sanhedrin, who had not consented to the council’s decision to crucify Jesus (Luke 23:50-51). He went to Pilate and requested Jesus’ body, demonstrating his faith and willingness to defy the authorities.
Joseph wrapped Jesus’ body in linen cloth and spices, following Jewish burial customs (Luke 23:54-56, John 19:39-40). Women came from Galilee and accompanied him as he laid Jesus in a new tomb, cut out of rock, which belonged to him.
Despite the risk to his reputation, Joseph took a bold stand for Jesus, showing that true discipleship often involves courage and commitment even in the face of fear. The Lord wants us all to take a stand for Him in this hostile world.
Do you have such courageous faith like Joseph? Are you willing to stand up for what is right, even if it means going against the majority. This from of commitment is hard to come by in our generation. But it can start with you. The more people are not ashamed of their faith, the more it will challenge others as well.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, give me the grace to stand for what is right and be courageous in the face of adversity. Amen.
