ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 24TH JULY 2026.
The prophet Micah is further moved in the Spirit to search out the right attitude of response to the call of God unto His people, Israel. First, there has to be a yielding heart which acknowledges that one had deviated. “With what shall I come before the Lord and bow myself?” (v. 6). Luke 15:16, notes concerning the prodigal son, “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, I will go home to my father and say, “Father; I have sinned against both heaven and you.” (NLT).
Therefore, until one recognises one’s state of spiritual misery, one cannot think of repentance! Prophet Micah went further to list the what they people consider the right attitudes that would appease God: Sacrifice offerings, sowing seed offerings, paying tithes, as well as giving to orphans, widows and the less-privileged. All these are good gestures, but they cannot justify a sinner before God.
The right response to true repentance is outlined in verse 8, “… and what does God require of you, But to do justly; To love mercy and to walk humbly with your God!” Psalm 51:17 says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
Beloved, that is the right attitude God wants us to put up. As we acknowledge and are convicted of our sinfulness and faults, we should repent and begin to do good. Today, we must turn away from our sins and turn to Jesus Christ in true brokenness of spirit, embrace His free gift of salvation and receive justification before God.
PRAYER POINT: Lord I surrender to you today. Please change my life and accept me into your fold again, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
