Anglican Communion Devotional
Daily Fountain 2022

The Topic of Daily Fountain Devotional for 12th November 2024 Is “Not Learning From Past Experience”

Read: Daniel 3: 1-7(NKJV)

1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2 And King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather together the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
3 So the satraps, the administrators, the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered together for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4 Then a herald cried aloud: “To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages,
5 that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up;
6 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.”
7 So at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, and lyre, in symphony with all kinds of music, all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE  FOR 12TH NOVEMBER 2024.

What could have moved King Nebuchadnezzar to set up this huge image of gold? Maybe it was to prove that he was still in charge? Though it is not stated the duration of the interpretation of the king’s last dream by Daniel and the current event, yet Nebuchadnezzar made the image and decided to force everyone, irrespective of religious belief, to bow down to it or face death.

Modern day tyrannical leaders may have learnt their acts from Nebuchadnezzar. What a show of power! People say that experience is the best teacher but only to those who wish to learn from it. Some never learn anything from their own or others’ experiences. The events in the time of the Judges in the Bible illustrate this. Israel would worship God faithfully during the life time of a Judge and once he died, they would go back to their normal ways until God would allow another nation to terrorize them. Who would have believed that Nebuchadnezzar would take another that would bring him on a collision course with God? An adage says, “When the wound heals, one forgets the pains.”

What do you think God wants you to learn from what you are passing through now? Open your heart and eyes to learn all you can because you may never learn it another way.

PRAYER: O Lord, give me the grace to learn all you are teaching me from what I’m going through now in Jesus name. Amen.
