RICK WARREN DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY 10TH FEBRUARY 2025.
Saving and investing are crucial for God’s blessing. You can’t rely solely on tithing or keeping good records—you must plan for the future. In fact, the Bible says saving is a test of wisdom.
To boost your savings, ask yourself, “Do I really need this?” When you’re tempted to buy, think: could this money go into savings instead? Saving and investing allow your money to work for you, rather than you constantly working for money.
Proverbs 13:11 teaches, “Money that comes easily disappears quickly, but money that is gathered little by little will grow” (NCV). Small, consistent savings compound over time. It’s not about how much you save, but how consistently you save.
Many people claim, “I can’t save much!” But it’s not the amount that matters—start small and stay consistent. For example, my parents taught me to tithe and save as a child. At 17, I began saving just a dollar a week, which gradually grew.
Save wisely so when you are older, you can live off of those savings and investments. That’s wisdom in action, and it’s far better than spending everything you earn.
Proverbs 24:27 says, “Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house” (NLT). Solomon’s financial advice is clear—invest your earnings in something that grows wealth instead of spending frivolously.
Tell God you’re committed to saving by praying a prayer like this:
Dear God, you’ve blessed me with everything I have, and I want to use it wisely. Help me save and invest with patience and purpose. When I’m tempted to spend on things I don’t really need, remind me to think ahead and trust you with my future. Show me how little steps—saving a bit at a time—can add up to something big. Lord, I don’t want to waste what you’ve given me. Teach me to be smart with my money, to plan well, and to honor you in all my choices. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Talk It Over
- Did you know God wants you not only to tithe, but also to save? How are you practicing these disciplines in your life
- Think about a time when you rushed into spending money but then you ended up needing it for something more important? How did that work out?
- What is one step you can take this week to start saving for your future?
