Today’s Scripture: (Ephesians 5:18)
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.
RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY TUESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 2026.
The Word of God wasn’t given merely to inform you; it was given for your response. The Bible says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22). One of God’s clear instructions to every Christian is found in Ephesians 5:18: “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” This isn’t a suggestion for a select few; it’s God’s will for every one of His children. Notice how the Apostle Paul presents the instruction. First, he says, “…be not drunk with wine.”
The comparison isn’t about wine itself; it’s about control. The Greek expression describes someone so filled with drink that he’s under its influence and governed by it. Then Paul immediately reveals the real point: don’t be controlled by wine; rather, be filled with the Spirit to the control of the Spirit. The focus isn’t the drink but what should replace it. God wants you continually yielded to the influence, direction, and government of the Holy Spirit. This truth is also beautifully echoed in Romans 8:14: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
The word translated “led” is the Greek verb “agō.” It means to lead, guide, conduct, carry along, impel or induce. This presents a beautiful picture of the Spirit-governed life. You’re not expected to navigate life by mere human reasoning or natural instincts. You’re to be continually induced by the Holy Spirit: directed by His wisdom, motivated by His power, and governed by His divine influence in everything you do. This is the secret to a supernatural life. When you’re continually under the Holy Spirit’s influence, you see beyond natural limitations and respond from the realm of the Spirit.
Your decisions, words, and actions are inspired by Him. You’re no longer confined to the ordinary plane of life because the Holy Spirit enables you to think God’s thoughts, see from His perspective, and walk in continual victory. Yield yourself to the Holy Spirit through the Word, prayer and fellowship with Him. As you do, you’ll find yourself continually induced by His presence, living above the ordinary and manifesting the life and glory of Christ everywhere.
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the gift and ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life. I yield myself completely to His influence, guidance and government. I’m continually induced by the Spirit in my thoughts, words and actions, walking in wisdom, power and the supernatural, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
