Topic: Remember Vashti
House Fellowship Leader’s Manual Lesson No: 25
OPENING PRAYER: Father, please eradicate from me any traces of arrogance that keep me out of divine order.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leaders should remind the members on procrastination and how to avoid it.
MEMORY VERSE: Esther 1:12 (KJV)
But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.
BIBLE TEXT: Esther 1:10-19 (KJV)
10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,
11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.
12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.
13 Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew law and judgment:
14 And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king’s face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;)
15 What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?
16 And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.
17 For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.
18 Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king’s princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.
19 If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: Whatever God has deposited in your life is for a purpose, and you must ensure that you don’t abuse it. We shall examine the life of a queen called Vashti and the consequences of her behaviour.
LESSON AIM: To help members understand who is Vashti and the consequences of her actions.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to: Know the character called Vashti. Know the consequences of her action.
TEXT REVIEW: Esther 1:10-17
- Anything we have and we are, the glory should be credited to the KING who gave us.
- Refusal to return glory to our MAKER can bring loss to us and HIS fury, anger to us.
- There is an eternal penalty to disobedience.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: WHO WAS QUEEN VASHTI?
- Wife of king Ahasuerus, king of Persia. Esther 1:9-10.
- She was beautiful. Esther 1:11
- She refused to display her beauty. Esther 1:10-12
- She was displaced as queen. Esther 1:15-21
- She was replaced by Esther. Esther 2:17
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: CONSEQUENCES OF QUEEN VASHTI’S ACTION.
- Queen Vashti was disgraced and dethroned. Esther 1:19.
- She was replaced by Esther. Esther 2:17
- Her introduction of a strange lifestyle in that kingdom incurred the king’s wrath. Esther 1:16-18
- Her relevance and dignity were trashed and buried.
- Her beauty, which was celebrated, was mutilated.
- Queen Vashti brought shame to herself through pride.
ACTIVITY: Aside Vashti, discuss two biblical character that was dethroned through pride?
SUMMARY: There is an eternal penalty to disobedience.
CONCLUSION: Do you know that for every Vashti that misbehaves, there is an Esther around the corner? There is no favouritism when man fails to please his Maker. Are you performing your duty effectively? Is your heart not full of pride? Remember that the grace of God over your life is not for pride. Examine your life and desist from actions that can destroy your glorious future!
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, please don’t replace me in your glorious plans for this end time.
- Father, destroy totally every strange lifestyle in me that can incur your wrath.
- Father, every seed of pride in me that can cause me to lose my relevance be consumed by fire.
- Father, what is causing people to celebrate God in my life will never be mutilated.
- Every opening to bring shame to my life through pride be blocked by fire.
GOLDEN DIET FOR THE WEEK
MONDAY: I will break down your arrogant spirit by making the skies above as unyielding. Leviticus 26:19.
TUESDAY: The wicked through the pride of his countenance will not seek after God. Psalm 10:4
WEDNESDAY: Pride leads to disgrace and ends in humiliation. Proverbs 11:2, 29:23
THURSDAY: Pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
FRIDAY: The arrogance of a man testifies against him, keeping out of God’s grace and mercy.
SATURDAY: When you are proud, the eyes of God are kept away from you.
SUNDAY: Pride leads to argument. Those who take advice are wise.
