Open Heavens For Teens Thursday 19th September 2024 – King Abijah

The Topic of Teenagers Open Heavens for Thursday 19th September 2024 Is “King Abijah”

Read: 1 Kings 15:1-6

[1]Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah.
[2]Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.
[3]And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
[4]Nevertheless for David’s sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:
[5]Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
[6]And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.

2 Chronicles 13:12
[12]And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

Memorise: Exodus 14:14

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

King Abijah’s reign was filled with war because he tried to reclaim Israel’s northern ten tribes as part of his kingdom. One of the things that gave him victory in the battle against his enemy was that he upheld God’s covenant with Israel while the other tribes got rid of the Levites and gave the people freedom of worship – to become priests of false gods if they wanted to.

God was proud of King Abijah, who truly honoured Him by standing up for righteousness. He said: *”Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with their battle trumpets to sound the call to battle against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers, for you cannot succeed”*. 2 Chronicles 13:12, ESV

My dear child, don’t get involved in unnecessary fights when satan attacks you; just honour God by living a holy life, and you will realise that you won’t need to lift a finger because God Himself will fight for you.

CONFESSION:
I receive the grace to stand for righteousness all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Isaiah 30:12-33:9 Galatians 5:1-12

HYMN 21: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING
1. Standing on the promises of Christ, my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail.
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

3. Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

4. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning ev’ry moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
