Managing money is not only for adults—it is a life skill everyone should learn early, including teenagers. Learning how to handle money now will help you avoid financial struggles in the future.
Before my children became teenagers, we taught them the importance of financial stewardship, and they practised it faithfully. Today, by the grace of God, they are doing well financially.
In today’s Bible reading, the ant is described as wise because it prepares ahead by storing food during the summer when there is abundance. This teaches us the importance of saving during times of surplus.
Setting financial goals is a wise habit. Whether you receive allowances from your parents or guardians, or earn money from a small business, you should learn to save before spending.
One way to manage your money effectively is by using a piggy bank or a savings app on your phone. You can save daily, weekly, or monthly. You may also save towards self-development, such as learning a new skill or enrolling in a professional course. Additionally, keep a record of how you spend your money. Buy what you need, not just what you want.
When you practise these habits intentionally, you will develop financial discipline, accountability, and good money management skills that will benefit you throughout your life.
