“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
Great leaders don’t appear overnight—they are shaped through good followership. The disciples of Jesus are a perfect example. They lived closely with the Master for three and a half years—praying, walking, eating, learning, and ministering with Him
. So, when Jesus ascended, they became exceptional leaders because they had followed well.
Many leadership failures today happen because people refuse to listen to their parents, teachers, and other authorities while they are still followers. If someone doesn’t follow well, leading well becomes almost impossible.
By God’s grace, even though I had more formal education than my Father in the Lord, I still submitted to him fully. He taught me that true leadership requires sacrifice.
During programmes, we often fasted for long periods while ensuring that church members were fed freely. He trained me to give everything to God’s work—even when no backup plan existed. Today, I still deny myself many things to ensure the comfort of God’s people.
My dear child, if you desire to become a great leader tomorrow, start by being a humble, obedient, and responsible follower today.
