The Topic of Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional for 30th May 2024 Is “The Sin of Talebearing”

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Job 15; Job 16; Job 17; Act 2; Act 3

FIRE SCRIPTURE:  Proverbs 26:20-22

20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious* man to kindle strife.
22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

MEMORY VERSE: Leviticus 19:16
Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor; I am the LORD.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES: Talebearing is a poison that wounds the teller, the hearer, and the person concerning whom it is told. Beware of talebearers!

PRAISE AND WORSHIP:
Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
You will not be a reference point for evil, in the name of Jesus.

MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 30TH MAY 2024

A talebearer spreads gossips, scandals, rumours, or malicious reports about others. Our memory verse teaches us that God hates talebearing and He severely warns us against indulging in it.

It is not only restricted to falsehoods or half-truths; it also includes things that are actually true, but that are derogatory about a person. The Lord prohibits the practice of carrying bad news about a person’s failings, or the habit of gossiping about the mistakes and sins of others. As we mature in Christ, the desire to hear of the faults of others dies away and in its place is born a godly desire to hear of the good achievements of others.

Slander, gossip, tale-bearing, and character assassination are all manifestations of satanic characteristics and should be resolutely put away by the grace of God. If we have nothing good to say about a person, it is better to be quiet than to fan the flames of gossip with the fuel of bad news.

Proverbs 18:8 says, “The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.” Gossip hurts and wounds the spirit of people. There have been cases of Christians who fell into sin but were unable to rise again, not because of the gravity of the sin they committed but because of the wounds they got from the talebearing of so-called fellow Christians, which was too much for them to bear. Beloved, we can do better as Christians. We should not be adding salt to the injury of fallen soldiers. Rather, we should help them up again (James 5:19-20).

Our words are always indicative of the state of our relationship with God because they are a direct reflection of that which our minds dwell upon. That is why the Bible sets the gold standard by which all our communications should be governed in Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” May God help us to use our tongues aright, in Jesus’ name.
