God judges and rewards our motives. Therefore, we should ensure that our reason for seeking Him, worshipping Him and serving Him is right. In John 6, the Bible affirms that a great multitude followed Jesus because they saw the miracles which He did on them that were diseased. Shortly after this, Jesus fed the five thousand with five loaves of bread and two pieces of fish, and those who saw the miracle sought him to make him king who would bring them out of the Roman yoke and provide them free fo0d always. Even when Jesus escaped to Capernaum, the same people boarded a Ship to seek Him there. When they eventually found Jesus, He told them a plain truth: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labor not for the meat that perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, for him hath the Father sealed” (John 6:26-27)
There are people who seek God for what He can give them; they don’t seek to have a genuine and obedient relationship with Him. Let us examine how people seek the Lord for the wrong reasons and ensure we avoid their pitfalls: (1) For the material things they want to gain and what their carnal minds’ desire. However, Jesus warned us to beware of covetousness, as a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things which he possesses – Luke 12:15 (2) In order to have an emotional experience. Being joyous when you hear God’s word is an emotional experience, but what is important is not that feeling. Rather what is important is your obedience to what you heard – Matthew 13:20-21 (3) For position, power and recognition. Jesus advised us all that leadership is about serving others. In Col0ssians 3:17, he added that whatever we do should be with one motive: to give glory to God, not ourselves or anyone else (4) Solely for business, money and profit – Matthew 21:12-13; 6:24. For signs and wonders (Matthew 12:38- 39). Again, if any of these has been your reason for seeking Jesus, you need to turn to God in repentance and amend your ways.

MORNING
1. I will not seek the Lord in vain, in the name of Jesus.
2. My Father, forgive me for seeking Jesus Christ for the wrong reasons, in the name of Jesus.
3. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for c0nvicting and helping me to correct my motives in seeking Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
EVENING
4. Henceforth, Iwill prioritise growing my relationship with God, in the name of Jesus.
5. Jesus Christ, I declare that You are my sufficiency, in the name 0f Jesus.
6. I overcome all works of the flesh, by the power in the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
7. I will labour for the meat that endures unto everlasting life, not the one that perishes, in the name of Jesus.
