MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 25TH JANUARY 2024
Jesus called that children be brought to Him because of some peculiar qualities found in them. He said, “Theirs is the kingdom.” It means that the kingdom of God belongs to those who have childlike spirit. This refers to qualities such as innocence, simplicity of mind and purpose, and guilt-free spirit. Naturally, children are naïve and innocent; they are simple and hold no grudges. They easily do away with offences and are quick to forgive. They are often void of bitterness, resentment and all such negative feelings.
God desires that parents should start to lead and nurture their children in the way of the Lord, beginning from when they are young. They will not depart from it as they grow up. Unfortunately, many Christian parents know God, but leave their children behind. This could be either as a result of spiritual ignorance, ungodly compromise or sheer complacency. The truth is that any parent that fails to lead his or her children to God would be considered to have failed God and misled the children, except if by grace the children have the opportunity to encounter Christ in their older years.
As a parent, how do you bring the children to Jesus? Start by teaching them the word of God when they are young. God made boast of Abraham, that he will teach his children His word and how to keep it (Genesis 18:19). Joshua 1:8 states, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
Teach your children how to know and reverence God; how to live a righteous life and be godly in all their ways. Let them know that heaven and hell are real, but God’s children are to be in heaven and not in hell with satan and his cohorts. Above all, be the pointer to God through your word and deeds. As a Christian, let the light of God shine through you to show them the Way (John15:6).
Lay the foundation of your children’s lives on Christ the Solid Rock. With Christ in them, they shall never fall victim to this wicked world.
