BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 45; Psalms 46; Psalms 47; 1 Corinthians 6; 1 Corinthians 7
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 13:7-12
7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 23RD JUNE 2024
Today, we will continue our discourse on “Lessons from the Life of Lot.” Another lesson we can learn from Lot is that immediately he separated himself from Abraham, he began to experience another calamity. He was kidnapped by the kings of Canaan and taken captive. In our Fire Scriptures, one man escaped and went to tell Abraham what had happened to Lot. Abraham armed his servants and went after those who kidnapped his nephew. He delivered Lot and brought him back.
Beloved, there are some helpers that God has assigned to each and everybody. When you separate yourself from your helpers, you will suffer. That was exactly what happened to Lot. If God in His graciousness connects you with a helper or benefactor, you will do well to maintain the relationship. What the benefactor or helper requires from you may just be a minor sacrifice, but some people, because of temporary gain, have separated themselves from their divine helpers and they are suffering today like Lot (Genesis 19:1-3)
Lot imitated Abraham, his mentor, in the area of hospitality. We can also learn this lesson from Lot and take a cue from him. He was sitting at the gate of Sodom when the angels came and he perceived that they were divine emissaries. He prevailed on them to enter his house and he took care of them. By so doing, he fulfilled the word of the scriptures in Hebrews 13:2: “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained strangers unawares.” It is good to be given to hospitality. That was what delivered Lot from sudden perdition. He did not know the nature of the heavenly host he received that day.
Dearly beloved, it is good to be hospitable. Do not reject anyone and do not miss an opportunity to help people because you will be the highest benefactor of the help as time goes on. Finally, we need to know and learn that Lot was not spiritually sensitive to his environment, and he paid for it. Beloved, you should not repeat this mistake of Lot. God wants you to be spiritually alert and to enforce His dominion wherever you are.
