24 But Jacob stayed apart by himself, and a man wrestled with him until dawn broke.
25 When the man saw that he couldn’t defeat Jacob, he grabbed Jacob’s thigh and tore a muscle in Jacob’s thigh as he wrestled with him.
26 The man said, “Let me go because the dawn is breaking.”
But Jacob said, “I won’t let you go until you bless me.”
27 He said to Jacob, “What’s your name?” and he said, “Jacob.” 28 Then he said, “Your name won’t be Jacob any longer, but Israel,[a] because you struggled with God and with men and won.”
29 Jacob also asked and said, “Tell me your name.”
But he said, “Why do you ask for my name?” and he blessed Jacob there. 30 Jacob named the place Peniel,[b] “because I’ve seen God face-to-face, and my life has been saved.”

MFM Daily Devotional Message Saturday 16th August 2025.
Many of us have fleshly, stubborn and sinful dispositions which have been dominating our lives. These dispositions sometime stand at the very core of our lives and they become strongholds of demonic activities. Most times, we do not even notice them. But God, in His lovingkindness, provides many opportunities in which these natural flaws are exposed.
When this happens, you will realise how ugly, and filthy this disposition is. What you have been boasting about, what you have gloried in and taken satisfaction in, and what you have considered excellent and superior will now be exposeed under the Xray power of God’s light and found to be nothing but the fleshly life, which is filthy, corrupt, base and despicable. This is when the light ‘touches’ you, and this is the meaning of Peniel. God shows you that the very things that you once boasted in, the things you considered admirable, were proud of, are the very expressions of the carnal life in you. When you receive God’s touch in these areas you are humble. Just like Jacob experience God and never remained the same again.
It is difficult to find a Christian who does not have his natural life lurking behind his boasts. Therefore, you have to be particularly careful about what your boasts of. The things that you boast of are often the very things that God will deal with. When He touches this spot, you will become very ashamed and say, “How could I have made my greatest shame my glory?”
Beloved, when you have an encounter with God, like Jacob, you will see yourself for who you really are. You will see the ugly and base area of your life. You will see all the pretence and shame in your Christian service and wonder how you could have considered them your glory and virtues. When the light of the Lord beams on you, all the struggling and jostling for relevance and church positions will stop in your life. You will do all things with Christ-centredness and with a supernatural grace that ‘transcends all understanding’. The question therefore is: ‘Are you ready for a Peniel encounter with the Lord?” If truly you are, you will experience a transformation that will change the course and worth of your life for the best forever.
MFM Daily Prayer Points 16th August 2025
1. My Father, give me my personal Peniel encounter, in the name of Jesus.
2. I reject failure, and welcome divine blessing into my life today, in the name of Jesus.
3. O God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, manifest Yourself in my life now, in the name of Jesus.
4. O God, change my Jacob to Israel, in the name of Jesus.
5. O God, move me from curses to blessings, in the name of Jesus.
6. My blessings will not be transferred to another, in the name of Jesus.
7. Every embargo of stagnation in my life, scatter now, in the name of Jesus.
