MFM Daily Devotional Message Saturday 13th December 2025.

Partiality, discrimination, and favouritism exist in many families and homes. God condemns every form of partiality because the family is the main socializer. If this evil is allowed to take root, it spreads to society and causes damage. Today, we focus on the family.

God warns strongly against parental favouritism. It often breeds envy and rancor, leading to disunity. It suppresses children’s talents, diminishes self-esteem, and drives some to avoid social interactions. It can pit siblings against each other and create unhealthy competition.

Genesis 25:28 shows that Isaac loved Esau for his venison while Rebekah loved Jacob. This parental favouritism led Rebekah and Jacob to deceive Esau and take his blessing, creating hatred and enmity between them. Jacob’s destiny was not fully realized until he reconciled with God and Esau, and made restitution.

Similarly, Jacob’s favouritism toward Joseph caused his brothers to hate him (Genesis 37:4). Their envy led to selling Joseph into slavery, resulting in years of separation and sorrow. Later, when famine came, Jacob’s greater love for Benjamin—like his love for Joseph—again demonstrated partiality. Jacob’s love for Rachel over Leah also caused family wrangling.

Parental favouritism always leaves negative consequences for both parents and children. Therefore, dear parent, seek God’s wisdom in parenting. Show equal love and care to all your children, acknowledging their differences in talents, achievements, and timing.

Heed God’s admonition in 1 Timothy 5:21: “Without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.” May God bless your parenting in Jesus’ name.
