MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 11TH JANUARY 2026
As New Testament believers, we have two intercessors: Jesus Christ, our High Priest in heaven (Hebrews 7:25) and the Holy Spirit on earth. Both of them always present our matter before the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16).
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of grace and supplication (Zechariah 12:10). He teaches us (believers) to pray. He intercedes for us (Romans 8:26).Intercession is to pray on behalf of another person.
As a believer, this should be part of your prayer life. We should make it a habit to pray for other Christians, our leaders, our church and our nation, among others. However, the truth is that many believers struggle with prayer and intercession.
They are not consistent with their Quiet Time, daily devotion, vigils and wish they do better in all of these so as to enjoy closer fellowship with God. This is where the Holy Spirit plays a significant role in our lives.
The Bible underscores this point and specifies this role in Romans 8:26-27, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. “The word “infirmities” refers to our weakness.
Romans 8:26 identifies what that weakness is: “We know not what we ought to pray and how to pray; we do not always know exactly what to ask God.” The Holy Spirit comes to us in this situation and in our other problems, makes those problems His own and takes them to God on our behalf.
He helps us to pray according to God’s will and does so with deep, wordless sigh. One truth you should never forget is that the Holy Spirit cannot pray amiss. That is why His intercession for us is always very rewarding.
He knows the will of God and prays for each of us according to the will of the Father. It is quite gratifying to know that the Holy Spirit acts as a mediator, pleading for believers’ needs before God.
