MFM Daily Devotional Message Wednesday 10th December 2025.
Yesterday, we identified five key areas where parents should serve as good shepherds and discussed two. Today, we will look at the remaining three.
The third way a parent can shepherd their children is by guiding and motivating them to serve God and make right choices in life. How can this be done? It begins with being the best example to your children. Be a parent they can imitate. Paul said, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.” Your life, conduct, and values should be a clear and godly example for them to read and follow. Guide them to good pastures (Ezekiel 34:13–14). Attend church with them and ensure they are being spiritually fed through the Word and prayer. Let them see you serve God actively in church; your example will inspire them to follow.
Another important responsibility of a good shepherd is to protect their children. Moses’ mother hid him despite Pharaoh’s dangerous decree (Exodus 2:1–2). In Matthew 2:13–22, Joseph was warned by God to flee to Egypt with Mary and Baby Jesus until it was safe to return. Parents must protect their children spiritually and physically. During the Passover, parents ensured that their households were protected by applying the blood of the lamb on their doorposts.
Dear parent, you must defend your children against spiritual wolves—the devil and his agents. Nehemiah 4:14 charges us to fight for our sons, daughters, and families. You are called to imitate the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep (John 10:11–13).
The good news is that fulfilling this role is possible because God has promised to help you. He says, “I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children” (Isaiah 49:24–25). What a wonderful assurance!
