DR JEFF SCHREVE DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE FOR TODAY 5TH JULY 2023.
Have you ever felt like your prayers had no power? Have you ever wondered to yourself if prayer really does any good… if it really makes a difference? I think if we are honest, we have all felt that way at one time or another. One of our big problems with prayer is that we do not see God answer as fast as we would like… so we give up.
Jesus told a parable one day that dealt with the subject of prayer (Lk. 11). The crux of the parable was this: PERSIST IN PRAYER AND GOD WILL ANSWER. Jesus said, “Men ought always to pray and not quit” (Lk. 18:1).
HAVE YOU QUIT?
Have you thrown in the towel on your prayers? Have you quit praying for your marriage to get better… your wayward child to come back… your friend to get saved… your situation at work to change… your finances to multiply… OUR COUNTRY TO TURN BACK TO GOD? Could the reason you have not seen answers be due to the fact that you have not persisted in prayer. Perhaps you knocked a few times on heaven’s door and left in anger and disgust because God did not answer ON YOUR TIMETABLE.
Remember this: GOD’S TIMETABLE IS HARDLY EVER IN SYNC WITH OUR TIMETABLE. He is God. His ways are SO FAR above our ways. He knows best. He will move at the right time IF we do not grow weary, throw in the towel and quit
ENCOURAGEMENT
Let me encourage you as I encourage myself. Persist in prayer. Keep in mind the PUSH principle – Pray Until Something Happens. Get back on your knees. Keep knocking and seeking and asking God to meet the needs in your life. Keep claiming His Word and His promises in prayer. Keep your eyes fixed on Him.
He will answer you at the right time. He will provide for your needs. He longs to show Himself mighty and strong in your life and mine. The greater the problem you are facing, the greater the glory God gets when He comes through. Little problems are opportunities for little miracles… but great big problems are opportunities for great big miracles.
Do not lose heart. Do not get frustrated and angry and conclude that prayer does not work. It does work. God does hear, and God does answer. How do I know? Because He promised! “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know” Jeremiah 33:3.
