The Topic of Deeper Life Daily Manna Devotional for 30TH January 2023 Is “ The Pursuit of Happiness“

Text:  Psalm 1:1

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”

KEY VERSE: Psalm 1:1-6 (KJV)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

It has been proven that happiness cannot be bought with money. Otherwise, the richest people in the world would have been the happiest. We have seen cases of people who have reached the peak of their careers; attained worldwide fame; possessed all the things wealth can buy; travelled the world round but still ended up miserable, frustrated, despondent and even with suicide! Happiness does not come with or without the possession of money. If money and the good things of life do not give happiness, how then can one be happy?

Our passage today gives us the answer. The happy (blessed) man is the man who does not take delight in sin. Happiness comes from doing the will of God. The text clearly shows the difference between the godly who delights in the law of the Lord and the ungodly who despise the way of the Lord to walk in his own way and the dictates of sinners. While the godly has a satisfied, prospered and happy life, the ungodly will remain miserable, sad and frustrated.

The lack of proper understanding of the secret of happiness had made many people indulge in the rat race with the hope of finding happiness. Many have sold themselves over to drugs, alcohol and other harmful substances in an attempt to escape the sorrow and misery of life but instead get further drowned in deeper misery. Failed marriages and divorces are testaments of failure to find happiness in erstwhile promising relationships. Even strict religious observances that are void of grace have further plunged many into grief.

But the truth is that we can truly be happy in life. The life of godliness produced through a living faith in the Lord Jesus and wholehearted obedience to the whole counsel of God will result in a long life of happiness. Do you really want to have true happiness in life? Come to Jesus today!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Godliness and happiness are inseparable associates.
