DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a spokesman as “a person who speaks as the representative of another or others, often in a professional capacity.” Some of its synonyms include mouthpiece, spokesperson, prophet, and point person.
The underlying principle in all these definitions is that a spokesperson must never arrogate authority to himself.
He speaks only by the mandate of the one he represents and must possess accurate knowledge of that person’s mind and position.
Elihu, a younger associate of the aged Job, prematurely inserted himself into Job’s ordeal and boldly claimed to be God’s spokesperson. Job had earlier expressed a desire to reason with God concerning his suffering.
After Job’s three elderly friends failed to establish that his suffering was a punishment for sin, Elihu surfaced with confidence, asserting that he was qualified to interpret God’s dealings with Job. Sadly, this was an expression of youthful pride rather than divine appointment.
Believers today are chosen to represent God in this generation, but this role comes with strict responsibility. God’s spokesperson must not be self-exalting, arrogant, or wrapped in a holier-than-thou attitude.
We must not advertise personal righteousness or claim God’s prerogatives as our own. Our speech must be seasoned with grace, truth, humility, and spiritual wisdom.
This sacred calling demands that we listen attentively to God before speaking to others. What flows from our lips must align with the godly conduct reflected in our lives.
We are to speak with humility to sinners, compassionately present God’s message of salvation, warn of eternal consequences, and confidently reveal God’s love, mercy, and blessings available to all who trust in Him.

If Christ is our message, self and pride cannot be the outlet.
