DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
In the winter of 2023, in a small rural town in Oklahoma, USA, a single mother named Sarah was faced with severe financial hardship. With two young children to care for, she had lost her job, and the freezing winter brought increased heating expenses.
As food supplies dwindled and unpaid bills piled up, anxiety and fear overwhelmed her. She wondered how her family would survive the winter.
One evening, however, help arrived unexpectedly. Members of a local church anonymously delivered a box of groceries and a gift card to cover her heating expenses. Later, she discovered that concerned parents from her children’s school had collaborated to provide the assistance.
That timely act of kindness strengthened her faith and reminded her that even in the darkest moments, God reveals His care through people.
This contemporary story closely mirrors the biblical account in our text. The widow in 2 Kings 4 had lost her husband—a faithful servant of God—showing clearly that no one is immune to life’s uncertainties.
She was burdened by debt and faced the terrifying prospect of losing her children to creditors. Yet, rather than giving in to despair, she sought help from the right source—the prophet Elisha.
Following the prophet’s instruction, she acted in faith and obedience. What seemed insignificant—her little jar of oil—became the channel of divine provision. God miraculously multiplied the oil until it was sufficient to settle her debts and sustain her family.
After paying what she owed, she and her children lived on the proceeds from the remaining oil. Her obedience turned scarcity into abundance.
Our God remains the same today. Regardless of frightening economic reports, alarming statistics, or uncertain forecasts, believers belong to a kingdom that never runs out of provision. This New Year carries divine surprises for those who trust God. When we refuse to fret and instead seek help from the right source, divine intervention is guaranteed.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The power of faith lies in our unshakable conviction about God.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Matthew 12–13
