DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
In her book A Slow and Certain Light, Elizabeth Elliot narrates the story of two adventurers who sought her advice before venturing into the rainforest. Well-prepared and confident in their supplies and knowledge, they requested only a few helpful phrases to speak to the locals
. Elliot observed that many people approach God with the same mindset—thinking they are fully equipped for life and only needing occasional assistance.
She explains that God is not merely a source of quick answers or shortcuts. Instead, He desires a deep, abiding relationship with His children. While maps and directions may help, it is far better to have a guide who knows the way intimately. This is God’s desire: not just to inform us, but to lead us.
Similarly, during Israel’s journey through the wilderness, God did not give them maps or signposts.
He went with them Himself. His presence appeared as a pillar of cloud, directing them daily. When the cloud moved, they moved. When it remained, they remained. Their obedience was simple and profound—a total trust in God’s leading.
Today, believers have the Holy Spirit as their Guide. He leads us primarily through the Scriptures, but also through dreams, visions, godly counsel, and inward conviction—always in harmony with the Word of God.
As we reflect on God’s method of guiding Israel, we must examine ourselves:
Do we truly desire God’s presence, or do we rely on our own wisdom?
Are we sensitive to God’s leading, even when the direction is unclear?
Are we obedient, even when His guidance challenges our comfort?
God wants to guide every aspect of our lives—not only major decisions like marriage or career but the everyday steps that shape our journey. When He goes with us, we can never lose our way.
