Text:  Revelation 1:1-6 (KJV)

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein*: for the time is at hand.
4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

The life of the flesh is in the blood. When blood stops flowing in the body, the individual dies instantly. “It is the blood also that makes atonement for the soul” (Leviticus 17:11). Although many pagan rituals celebrate the eating and drinking of blood, in Christianity, Jesus Christ shed His blood, died and gave His life voluntarily to take away our sins, shame and suffering.

In our text, the potency of Christ’s blood was clearly expressed; He “loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Revelation 1:5). The significance of blood is demonstrated throughout the Scripture. Abel offered a lamb unto God (blood), and his sacrifice was accepted. Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac, his long-awaited son, but the blood of a ram – an innocent animal – was shed instead. At the Passover in Egypt, the Israelites slew a lamb per household and splashed the blood on their doorposts, to escape God’s wrath on Egypt, because God said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”

Today, Christ’s blood redeems us (1 Peter 1:18,19); brings us into fellowship with God (Ephesians 2:13); makes peace with God on our behalf (Colossians 1:20); cleanses us (1 John 1:7); and gives us power and victory over the devil (Revelation 12:11). There is also sanctification through Christ’s blood.

To partake in His blood’s cleansing and forgiveness requires accepting His sacrificial death through genuine repentance and faith. This will guarantee you an eternity of bliss in heaven.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
It is the blood of Jesus that discharges and acquits the repentant.
