DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

In 2003, NASA’s Space Shuttle Columbia was returning to earth after what appeared to be a successful mission. During takeoff, however, a piece of insulation foam struck the shuttle’s left wing, potentially causing serious damage.

Some engineers raised strong concerns and warned that the damage could be catastrophic. Unfortunately, their warnings were dismissed by superiors who assumed the problem was insignificant. Rather than listening carefully and investigating further, officials reassured everyone that the shuttle was safe. No corrective action was taken.

Tragically, as Columbia reentered the earth’s atmosphere, the damaged wing failed, causing the spacecraft to break apart and killing all seven astronauts on board. This disaster highlights three fatal errors: refusing to listen to wise counsel, rejecting correction, and speaking without careful thought.

In today’s passage, Solomon outlines four vital principles of godly wisdom. First, a wise person listens to instruction, while a scoffer rejects correction. Those who welcome guidance grow in wisdom, but those who despise advice invite trouble.

Second, wise words produce good results, while careless speech brings harm and conflict. Third, guarding one’s speech preserves life, but reckless talk leads to destruction. Finally, diligence leads to abundance, whereas laziness results in want.

Our world today is noisy—many speak, but few truly listen. Although Scripture commands believers to be swift to hear and slow to speak, many ignore divine instructions and refuse correction. The consequences of ignoring wise counsel, discipline, and diligence are evident in broken families, failed careers, and struggling ministries.

Believers must cultivate the habit of listening attentively—especially to God. We must also weigh our words carefully, knowing that speech carries power and wise words bring blessings.

The Bible remains the ultimate source of true wisdom, while godly leaders and parents are divinely positioned to give sound counsel. In addition, believers must reject laziness and embrace diligence.

Slothfulness is inconsistent with a life that is heaven-bound. We are called to occupy until Christ returns, faithfully carrying out our spiritual and physical responsibilities, confident that our heavenly Father will reward diligence both now and in eternity.
