DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
Dennis Wholey, an American TV host and author, once stated, “Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a little like expecting a bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.” This illustrates a reality every believer must accept: no matter how good or careful you are, detractors will always arise.
Israel, throughout history, has never lacked enemies. Yet, God’s promise remains unshakeable: Mount Zion is a place of deliverance, holiness, and possession. Part of Obadiah’s prophecy was fulfilled when the Jews returned to their homeland. Its full reality will manifest at the return of Christ.
Obadiah specifically pronounced judgment on Edom (descendants of Esau) for their pride and cruelty against Israel during her time of need. Their violence, betrayal, and gloating over Judah’s suffering drew divine condemnation. Obadiah prophesied their downfall and Israel’s restoration, triumph, and dominion.
More profoundly, the prophecy symbolizes ultimate victory over the kingdom of darkness. Esau’s house represents opposition to God, while Jacob’s house symbolizes God’s covenant people. The imagery of fire consuming stubble reveals God’s refining power and the triumph of righteousness.
This parallels the New Testament truth:
“Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world… even our faith.” – (1 John 5:4)
In light of God’s promises, believers must always see themselves as victors, not victims. Challenges—physical, emotional, spiritual—are temporary and purposeful. Scripture assures us that:
“…our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” – (2 Corinthians 4:17)
Therefore, no matter the adversity, Christians can stand firm, knowing that through Christ, ultimate victory is guaranteed.
