DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
In 1989, a devastating earthquake struck Armenia and, in just four minutes, flattened large parts of the nation and claimed about thirty thousand lives. In his book When Christ Comes, Max Lucado recounts a touching true story that followed that tragedy.
A father rushed to his son’s elementary school immediately after the quake. When he arrived, the building had completely collapsed. As he stared at the heap of rubble, he remembered a promise he had made to his son: “No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you.”
Though rescue workers told him it was hopeless and others urged him to go home, the father refused to give up. For 38 long hours, he dug tirelessly at the exact spot where his son’s classroom once stood. His strength came from his commitment to the promise he had made. Eventually, he heard his son’s voice beneath the rubble and rescued him alive—faithful to his word.
God’s promises are far more reliable than any human promise. Even if heaven and earth pass away, His word will never fail. This truth forms the foundation of today’s devotion. King David desired to build a magnificent temple for the Lord and made elaborate preparations for it.
After consulting Prophet Nathan, he received initial approval. However, God later revealed that David would not build the temple; instead, one of his sons would.
True to His word, God promised David that his successor would build the temple and that his kingdom would be established. When Solomon became king, God invited him to ask for anything. Solomon wisely reminded God of His promise to David, and God honoured His word exactly as He had spoken (1 Chronicles 17:11–13).
Believers today must learn from Solomon’s example. The promises of God are written in the Holy Bible for us to discover, believe, and stand upon. God has promised salvation, sanctification, provision, protection, and preservation. He has assured us that when we call upon Him in faith, He will answer. Indeed, the promises of God cover every area of our lives.
For every challenge we face, it is wise to respectfully remind God of His promises concerning us. These promises form the solid foundation of our faith. They sustained the patriarchs of old and enabled them to fulfill God’s purpose in their generation. In the same way, holding firmly to God’s promises will sustain us today as we stand on them without wavering.

God never makes too-good-to-be-true promises; He always fulfills what He says.
