DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

America’s Nobel Laureate in Literature, Saul Bellow, once said of truth: “A man may say, ‘From now on, I’m going to speak the truth.’ But the truth hears him and runs away and hides before he’s ever done speaking.”

Bellow may not have been acquainted with the conquering power of the Spirit of Jesus Christ that transforms sinners into new creatures at salvation. Those who are truly born again live transparently; they domesticate the truth because the Lord who saved them is Truth personified. Between them and the truth, there is no separation.

Apostle Paul exemplified this relationship with truth. Writing to the Thessalonian believers, he testified that he and his fellow evangelists had completely abandoned deceit, uncleanness, and guile. After encountering Christ, Paul, Silvanus, and Timotheus embraced the truth without compromise.

This commitment restrained them from using flattering words or seeking human approval. Thus empowered, the truth did not flee from them—it dwelt with them.

Since the Lord Himself declared that truth possesses liberating power, the fallen spiritual condition of humanity can be traced to the rejection of the truth of the gospel of Christ. Those who reject the truth become predisposed to deceit and the lies of the devil, the father of falsehood. Because they hate truth, it continually eludes them.

Believers in Jesus Christ—who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life—must consistently reveal themselves as servants of the truth wherever they go. Like the early disciples in Antioch, whose lives clearly reflected Christ, our conduct must align with our confession. Our character must authenticate our message. There must be no disconnect between what we preach and how we live.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Truth rejecters are always the ultimate losers.
