DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
Since its independence in 1948, the nation of Israel has practised universal military conscription as a vital part of its national security and identity. Every young man and woman is required to serve, reflecting the reality of living in a small nation surrounded by hostile neighbours. This readiness has been key to Israel’s survival.
Israel has faced opposition throughout its history—from biblical times to the present. After 70 years in Babylonian captivity, the Jews began returning home under the reigns of Cyrus, Artaxerxes, and Ahasuerus. Nehemiah was one of those specially raised by God to rebuild Jerusalem’s broken walls. But no sooner had the work begun than fierce opposition arose.
Nehemiah did not back down. Instead, he mobilised the people to work while remaining fully armed. Half of the workers built, and the other half stood guard with spears, shields, bows, and armour. Nobles and common people alike joined hands, staying alert and united until the work was completed.
As believers today, we are also called to rebuild the moral and spiritual walls of our society—walls broken down by sin, corruption, and rebellion against God. This work demands vigilance, unity, and spiritual warfare.
We must:
Arm ourselves with righteousness and truth.
Pray fervently and watch diligently.
Resist the opposition of Satan and his agents.
Continue spreading the gospel despite hostility.
Not everyone will celebrate our progress, but like Nehemiah, we must stay focused. The task is God-given, the mission is righteous, and victory is guaranteed for soldiers of Christ who remain steadfast.
