DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
There was once a car bumper sticker that read: “Don’t follow me… I’m lost!” It may have been a sincere warning from someone struggling to find direction in life. Unlike such honesty, false prophets deliberately lure people into error with deceptive appearances and promises.
In today’s passage, Jude warns about the dangers of listening to or following false prophets. He uses vivid metaphors to describe them: filthy dreamers who defile the flesh, despise authority, and speak against dignities (Jude 1:8). He likens them to Cain, who was cursed; Balaam, who pursued money greedily; and Korah, who perished in rebellion.
Jesus Himself said, “By their fruits ye shall know them.” Yet many ignore this counsel. Blinded by ignorance of God’s word, they are carried away by glamorous lifestyles and so-called miracles. Desperate for deliverance, healing, breakthroughs, and prosperity, many fall into their traps. These deceivers cause great damage, making it hard for victims to later trust genuine servants of God.
This is why believers must stay alert. It is not intolerance to expose or warn against false prophets; it is a spiritual duty. We must watch, pray, and remain grounded in God’s word to avoid deception and to help others steer clear of these wolves in sheep’s clothing.
