DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
History records the fall of once-powerful individuals, institutions, and nations that seemed invincible. The Soviet Union (USSR), a formidable superpower, collapsed in 1991.
Though external pressures contributed, internal weaknesses such as corruption, economic stagnation, resistance to reform, and ethnic tensions played a major role in its downfall. What once appeared strong crumbled from within.
In our text, Jeremiah prophesies the eventual restoration of Israel and the judgment of Babylon. Yet, a crucial lesson emerges: Israel’s captivity did not happen by accident. The Scripture plainly states, “because they have sinned against the LORD.”
Their strength, security, and divine protection were compromised by sin. Idolatry and rebellion against God stripped them of their spiritual defence, making them vulnerable to their enemies.
Sin weakens. It removes the covering of divine protection and exposes a believer to spiritual danger. A Christian remains strong and spiritually unconquerable as long as he walks in obedience and righteousness. But when one begins to toy with sin, neglect prayer, abandon fellowship, or take God’s grace for granted, vulnerability sets in.
No amount of outward religious activity—whether fervent prayers, fasting, or visible zeal—can substitute for a life of holiness. A believer who persists in sin cannot claim immunity from spiritual attack. Only repentance, mercy, and renewed obedience restore divine covering.
The secret to remaining strong and spiritually secure is simple: avoid sin. If you have strayed, do not delay repentance. Return to the Lord wholeheartedly. Procrastination in spiritual matters is dangerous, for no one knows what the next moment holds.
