Historical records reveal that Fidel Castro survived numerous assassination attempts during his lifetime. While the exact number remains debated, several plots were documented by investigative bodies, including the U.S. Senate’s Church Committee in 1975.
One notable attempt involved a close associate who was allegedly recruited and given poison to administer to him. However, the plan failed, and Castro lived into old age.
This account illustrates an important truth: the most dangerous threats often come disguised in familiarity. Seduction operates in a similar way. It is a subtle enticement toward error or evil, carefully wrapped in appealing promises. The bait looks harmless—sometimes even beneficial—but the outcome is destructive.
In today’s passage, Apostle Paul warns believers that in the latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. This was not merely Paul’s opinion; it was a clear warning from the Holy Spirit. False teachings are not harmless theological differences—they are spiritually dangerous and capable of leading people away from the truth.
The devil rarely presents himself openly as an enemy of Christ. Instead, he works through individuals who may appear sincere, respected, and even spiritually gifted. Some may have once stood firmly in the truth but later drifted from sound doctrine. This makes discernment essential for every believer.
How then can we guard ourselves?
First, we must know the truth of God’s Word and remain grounded in it.
Second, we must recognise that false teachers exist and stay spiritually alert.
Third, we must test every teaching against Scripture and reject any deviation.
Fourth, we must diligently teach and uphold the truth, because truth exposes and defeats error.
Believers must not yield even a small ground to falsehood, for deception can gradually overthrow the faith of the careless, the gullible, and the spiritually weak. Vigilance, discernment, and steadfast commitment to sound doctrine are essential in these times.
