DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
Mahatma Gandhi, though physically frail and naturally shy, became one of the most influential leaders of the twentieth century. His philosophy of non-violence played a central role in India’s struggle for independence and inspired civil rights movements across the world.
Gandhi believed that non-violence was the most rational and effective path to achieving lasting peace and societal change. His methods eventually contributed to the end of British colonial rule in India in 1947, leading to the creation of India and Pakistan.
Long before Gandhi’s time, however, the prophet Isaiah foretold the coming of a Leader whose mission would be marked by gentleness and peace. Isaiah described Christ as One who would not break a bruised reed nor quench a smoking flax. His leadership would not be characterised by violent protests or bloodshed. Instead, He would establish justice through truth, compassion, and righteousness.
During His earthly ministry, Jesus demonstrated this peaceful approach. He taught love for enemies, prayer for persecutors, and forgiveness for offenders. He healed the servant of a Roman centurion and reached out to publicans and sinners. Truly, He is the Prince of Peace.
Authentic Christianity does not promote violence. Societies are transformed not by invasion, but by invitation. Christ stands at the door and knocks; He enters only when hearts willingly open to Him.
Any violence historically associated with Christianity cannot be traced to Christ’s teachings or example. A sincere reading of the New Testament reveals a Saviour whose life radiates love and mercy.
Lasting peace in the world can only come through the love of Christ. The most powerful and enduring revolution is the transformation of hearts by His peace. When He returns, as Scripture promises, He will establish a reign of unprecedented peace. Those who faithfully preach and live out the gospel of peace will share in His eternal reign.
