1 A Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son. Lord, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me.
2 Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” Selah
3 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
4 I cried to the Lord with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah
5 I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.
7 Arise, O Lord; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8 Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah

ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE  FOR 4TH JANUARY 2025.

Our text today is directly linked to 2 Samuel 15, where David fled from his son, Absalom, who tried to kill him and take over his throne. Despite the hardship and having to run for his life, David kept his faith in God and prayed for deliverance. Verse 1 tells us David’s enemies were formidable and great in number. They were very confident, even saying that God would not deliver him. But the psalmist called to remembrance how God had delivered him in the past (verses 3-6). This led him to a great assertion of faith in God’s protection (Psalm 27:3; 23:4). From this assertion, he declared his desire for God to strike down all his enemies. Though not stated, this would silence their mockery. He ended by declaring that deliverance comes from God, who blesses his people.

Have you ever found yourself at a point in life where you are beaten and discouraged? Beloved, be assured that God is a shield around you; his banner over you is love. He is your glory, the lifter up of your head, and always answers when you call on him. Ifwe believe in God, thereis no dead end. Turn to God in faith and trust Him, just as David did, for with God all things are possible(Matthew 19:26)

PRAYER: Oh Lord, arise for my help this day and put my enemies to shame, Amen!
