The Topic of Daily Fountain Devotional for 2nd October 2024 Is “Attitude Towards The Ark”

Read: 1 Samuel 7: 1-2(NKJV)

1 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.
2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.

ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE  FOR 2ND OCTOBER 2024.

The ark of God, a symbol of God’s covenant and presence, was captured by the Philistines when Israel presumptuously took it to war. The Almighty God demonstrated that He cannot be captured by men. Hence, the presence of the ark unleashed terror and death on the Philistines, so they returned the ark to Beth-shemesh in Israel. The people of Beth-shemesh treated the ark with disrespect and were slain by God. However, the attitude of the men of Kiriath-Jearim in our text, is quite commendable. They provided shelter for the ark and consecrated a Priest to take charge of it.

The ark offered salvation and protection in the time of Noah and also represented God’s Presence in the Books of Samuel. Similarly, Jesus is our ark of today, providing redemption, God’s Presence and protection to all who run into Him. Unfortunately, some still act like the Philistines and men of Beth-shemesh by treating God with disdain. They jest with God’s name, reject the gospel, disregard God’s word with impunity, handle sacred items with carelessness, steal, commit immorality, etc.

Unfortunately, they forget that the God that punished the Philistines and the men of Beth-shemesh does not change. He still defends his name and punishes the ungodly. He is not a respecter of anybody. So repent today and make room for Jesus to come into your heart.

PRAYER:
Lord, may I never dishonour you through my attitude in Jesus name.
