The Topic of Daily Fountain Devotional for 28th December 2024 Is “Wait For God’s Direction”

Read: Matthew 2:13-19(NKJV)

13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,
15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.”
19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE  FOR 28TH DECEMBER 2024.

We remember in our meditation today, the Innocent children Herod killed in an attempt to kill Baby Jesus when the Magi did not return to give him information on the whereabouts of Jesus. The all-knowing God knew that Herod only wanted to eliminate a perceived rival. However, Herod did not know that Jesus’ kingdom was heavenly and not of this world. Note the prompt response of Joseph to the instruction to take Baby Jesus and mother to Egypt. The failure of Herod to kill Jesus in Palestine, is likened to the failure of Pharaoh to kill Moses in Egypt.

Again, the weeping in Palestine at the slaughter of the Holy Innocents, is likened to the weeping at Ramah, during the captivity of the Northern Kingdom (see Jeremiah 31: 15). In our reading today, Joseph was specifically instructed to flee to Egypt and dwell there; he was instructed to stay until a sure Word came from God.

There are moments we run into dangers in our life journeys-dangers that could have been avoided if only we were patient enough to wait and receive God’s direction via His Word. What are the things that make it hard for you to leave everything behind and obey the will and purpose of God?

Today, do not just rush out, tarry awhile in the place of prayer and study of the Word until your Spirit receives divine instruction. In Isaiah 30: 21, the scripture says “You will hear a voice from Behind saying, this is the way to walk therein. The Word of God received and obeyed forecloses every possibility of danger.

PRAYER: Lord, may I continually receive direction and guidance through your Word in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
