ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 27TH NOVEMBER 2024.
These two verses summarised the reign of Belshazzar. He was slain the very night the writing was interpreted. When God makes a decree, it must come to pass. If Belshazzar had learnt from the mistake(s) of his forebears, he would not have died at this time but it was already too late. The stubborn fly usually ends up in the grave with the corpse.
God first warns or reveals things through His servants before judging. Before the people of Judah were carried to Babylon, God sent several prophets to talk to them. Jeremiah even told them their captivity would last 70 years. Yet, they were not moved until it happened. God waited patiently until Belshazzar heard the interpretation of the writing before executing judgement on him. While he drank wine with the vessels from the house of the Lord with others, he never knew his time was up.
God judges righteously so that nobody can accuse Him of being unfair. Hebrews 9: 27 states that it is appointed unto man once to die and after that, the judgement. What warning is the Lord giving to you presently? Are you taking it seriously or you are unmoved about it? Is your philosophy,“… Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die?” (1 Cor. 15: 32). Please accept this window of opportunity God is giving to you to make amends to your life so that you don’t end up like Belshazzar.
PRAYER: Lord, please do not let me fall victim of your judgement because of stubbornness.
