The Topic of Daily Fountain Devotional for 26th May 2025 is “The Two Shall Be One”

Read: Ephesians 5:25-33 (NKJV)

  1. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
  2. that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
  3. that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
  4. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
  5. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord [does] the church.
  6. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.
  7. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
  8. This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
  9. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife [see] that she respects [her] husband.

ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE  FOR 26TH MAY 2025.

The passage today centres on the relationship between husbands and wives and the importance of mutual love and respect among Christian couples. The phrase “They two shall be one” signifies the deep bond and intimacy that should be shared between a husband and wife as a reflection of the relationship between Christ and the Church. The concept of oneness involves emotional, spiritual and relational unity. In a healthy marriage, spouses are meant to be united in their goals, values, and commitment to each another. They are called to support and care for each other, sharing their lives in a profound and intimate way. In this way, the couple expresses the significance and sacredness of the marital bond intended by God while instituting marriage.

Over time, as the couple bond with each other in the fear of God, both of them, in a unique way, now become one. This requires the grace of God, and deliberate and intentional commitment on the part of the couple. Therefore, whether you are married or not, you need this understanding of the purpose of God for marriage; if you are married, trust the Lord and align yourself to express His purpose through your marriage. Have you achieved oneness in your marriage?

PRAYER: Lord, in Your mercy, build our homes to Your own glory, Amen!
