As John was baptising in Aenon, Jesus and His disciples came into Judea and baptised there. John’s disciples came and complained to him that Jesus was baptising and al the people were going to Him.
The statement made by John’s disciples was enough to bring envy and jealousy in the life of John the Baptist towards Jesus, but being a man of understanding and knowing the scope of his own assignment, he confirmed the supremacy of Jesus and also stated that Jesus would increase while he would decrease.
Comparison and competition abound where there is a lack of this vital truth: “A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.”This speaks of contentment in whatsoever ministry or calling we have received from the Lord, knowing that there is no other source
One cunning way Satan attacks the work of God in our hands is to stir up strife and envy among God’s people. When all we seek is to glorify Jesus in our different callings, then we will always rejoice whenever we see Him glorified, whether through us or others.
